Hi all🙋🏻,

Kuchipata diye chingri bhapa or steamed prawns in colocasia leaves.

This is one of my all time favourite dish from Bengal. Have eaten a lotssss and lotss😋. But not cooked ever. As my younger sister is cabin crew and visits all over the world, revived my mind with the memory of this dish. Actually I think this is one of the lost recipe or may be I am lost🙄😂.

A very easy recipe cooked in minutes. This is actually a steamed delicacy. But I just microwaved for couple of minutes and hey.. Got the same taste. But of course you can steam as the traditional recipe calls for it☺️. Serve this with steamed rice and moshoor daal (musoor dal). Heaven😋

This recipe can be served to 3 people at a time.. Although I can have all at one sitting 😜.

400 gms deveined prawns

4 large colocasia leaves

2 tbsp poppy seeds or poshto daana.. Soaked for an hour in water.

2 tbsp black mustard seeds or shorsho daana. Soaked for an hour in water.

2 tbsp fresh grated coconut

2-3 whole green chillies

1 tsp red chilli powder (optional)

2-3 pinches turmeric powder

1 tbsp mustard oil

Wash and wipe the colocasia leaves. Just hold the middle main stem from the base and pull it out. Repeat the same for other 3. Fold all together and chop them roughly.

Heat a pan. Add chopped leaves and sauté for 2-3 minutes until no water residue is there. Keep it aside.

Now take a grinder. Add poppy seeds, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, green chillies and grated coconut. Grind it into fine paste. Add water with tsp only required. The consistency should be thick.

Now take prawns in a bowl. Add masala paste, sautéed leaves, mustard oil and salt. Mix all properly.

Now take a baking dish or tray. Transfer the prawn mix into it. Cover with cling film tightly.

Microwave for 4 minutes at high. Not more than that until prawns are of jumbo size.

Never ever overcook sea foods more than required. They will become chewy. As soon as the prawns seem white and translucent, stop cooking.

So as you take out the tray out from the microwave, leave it covered for a minute and then unveil it. Just see the beauty😍.

Serve immediately 😋
